Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator, who works with NBC News in Washington D.C. she is a TV anchor. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell was hired as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). In Washington she was made general reporter by NBC News two year later. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent in 1988. In 1992, she was made chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV show Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. She participated as a member of the panel during 1988 presidential debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell was married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded numerous honors in journalism, among them an award called the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. Mitchell was also awarded by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award presented by the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Her coverage included a variety of crucial stories such as the Iran-contra scandal, the budget and tax reform, as well as the issue of arms control. She traveled widely along with the president Reagan to meet together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
